An easy introduction to baking your own bread from scratch!
What you will need:
375g of strong white flour
7g of fast-action yeast
1 teaspoon of salt
250ml slightly warmed water
25g of melted butter
1 small egg, beaten
What you need to do:
1. Mix the flour, yeast and salt together before adding the butter. Mix and work in the water, creating a sticky dough.
2. Flour a work surface and knead the dough for approximately five minutes. This will help the bread become stretchy.
3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, and cover with a plastic bag or cling film. Leave the dough to rise at room temperature until it has doubled in size. This will usually take about an hour and half.
4. Once it has doubled in size, put your dough on a floured work surface and 'knock back' by folding the dough, removing the air from your mix.
5. Divide your dough into even sized twelve balls, and place each into a greased 8 inch sandwich tin. Each ball touching one next to it, filling the entire sandwich tin.
6. Cover the sandwich tin in cling film loosely, or place a plastic bag over the dough and leave to double in size. This should take about half an hour.
7. Pre-heat your oven to Gas Mark 7/200c (Fan Oven 220c). Lightly brush the egg over over the bread and then place in the oven for 20 minutes or brown on top.
8. Leave to rest on a wire rack.
