2018 Newcastle: TG's Northern National Carol Service

The third and final of TG’s 2018 National Carol Services took place in Newcastle at the Cathedral Church of St Nicholas.

 

Founded in 1091 the Norman church was destroyed by fire in 1216 and the current building was completed in 1350, so is mostly of the Perpendicular style of the 14th century. Its tower is noted for its 15th-century lantern spire.

 

The Service was conducted by the Right Reverend Christine Hardman, Bishop of Newcastle, and Canon Clare MacLaren.

 

The National Chairman and National Trustees welcomed Councilor David Cook the Sherriff of Newcastle, and the Lady Sheriff, as well as over 400 individual members of TG.

 

The Choir, the Newcastle Cathedral Octet, were under the guidance of their Conductor, Ian Roberts.

 

In the hour long Service there were Carols, the signing of the TG Anthem, ‘I am a small part of the World’, Readings and the Six Gifts:

Gift One - Love

Gift Two - Joy

Gift Three - Peace

Gift Four - Patience

Gift Five - Friendship

Gift Six – Jesus

 

At the end of the Service, the Blessing was given by the Bishop, the Right Reverend Christine Hardman.
