2018 Hereford: TG's Midlands National Carol Service

The second of TG’s three 2018 National Carol Services took place in Hereford Cathedral. It’s most famous treasure is Mappa Mundi, a mediaeval map of the world created around 1300 by Richard of Holdingham.

The cathedral is a Grade I listed building with the oldest part of the current building, the bishop's chapel, dating back to the 11th century.

The event was attended by TG’s Patron, Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, who read a Reading during the Service, and the National Chairman, National Trustees, former National Chairmen, local dignitaries and last but not least, individual members of TG.

The Service was conducted by The Dean of Hereford, The Very Reverend Michael Tavinor.

The Visiting Choir, the Academia Musica Choir, were under the guidance of their Conductor, Jon Weller.

In the hour long Service there were Readings and Carols, the signing of the TG Anthem, ‘I am a small part of the World’ and readings on the Six Gifts:

Gift One - Love

Gift Two - Joy

Gift Three - Peace

Gift Four - Patience

Gift Five - Friendship

Gift Six - Jesus

Before the last Carol, National Chairman, Jenny Rideout read a poem, the theme of which was friendship.

At the end of the service a local schoolgirl, whose Great grandmother was a founder member of Tupsley TG, presented a posy to HRH The Princess Royal.
