Honorary Membership

At TG we are immensely proud of the women who through their actions and principles have had a positive impact during the fight for women's rights and equality. But the fight continues so as a thank you, and by way of recognising their efforts and achievements, we will be offering Honorary Membership to a select list of outstanding women.

Choosing Honorary Members
Our plan is to invite members to nominate women, living now, who have made waves, continue to make waves or are believed will continue the fight and make waves in the future.   To propose someone that you think is worthy of Honorary Membership click here.

From the list of nominees the NEC will select three names and run a 2 month poll in the members area to find the most popular individual. The individual with the highest vote will be awarded Honorary Membership.  To vote on the current poll click here.

Honorary Membership entitles the member to a badge, a copy of the magazine and the right to attend any TG national events on the same basis as all other members and we would like to think they would also welcome at any of the guilds.

80s Night -

In 1983, Cindy Lauper told us that ‘Girls just want to have fun’ and we proved her right at our 80s night on 19th August.

We were a cheerful group with some of our number clad in 80s ‘going out’ favourites of bright wigs, leg warmers and fingerless gloves plus oversized earrings and clusters of necklaces. We were asked to consider our 1980s style and ponder on some big questions of the time like Who shot J.R? Was Michael Fish right when he said there would be no storm? Could Alvin Stardust teach you how to cross the road, when seen wearing a glove with a ring on the outside of it? And was a bum bag the best way to keep your valuables safe?

Marie’s 50 years in TG -

Marie’s daughter Indra told us about her Mum’s long TG membership and how she is inspiration to all who meet and get to know her.

Marie Pooran came to Britain in the 1960s (from the Caribbean) and joined the Tottenham Evening Townswomen's Guild in 1971, a quintesentially British organisation which she has contributed fully to it - and continues to do so. At that time she was the only Asian member and actually for all of her 50 years has been one of few across many guilds and a rarity when attending the AGM and other events.
