Secretary's Report 2021-2022

Secretary’s Report 2021 I'm sure some of you are wondering why we are having another AGM six months after the last one. Isn't one a year enough, I hear you say? The simple explanation, which everyone is using these days, is covid. Lockdown in 2021 meant we couldn't hold our usual March AGM and it had to be postponed until September. That AGM covered the year 2020 which means here we are again six months later while I present my report for 2021. This was a year of two halves. The first half saw us in lockdown again, unable to meet, and relying on our monthly newsletter as a means of communicating with members, and our second half began in August with the easing of restrictions. We were fortunate in being able to begin holding our monthly meetings in August and it was good to see so many members coming back. We produced a programme for the rest of the year, the highlight being a delayed 70th birthday. We tried a new venue, the Croham Hurst Golf Club, and invited Penny Ryan, the National Chair, as well as members from the East Surrey Federation and Sanderstead TG. In December our meeting was afternoon tea with entertainment, which was the perfect way to end 2021. We have managed to have some interesting speakers and I am sure next year's programme will be as entertaining. We managed two outings. The first was to see Cinderella, which received mixed reviews, and our last outing of the year was a coach trip to see the London lights, and included a stop for a fish and chip supper. It proved very popular and members have suggested we repeat it. Thanks go to Elizabeth Baigent for organising both in addition to everything else she does. We lost two committee members (Brenda Johnson and Yvonne Smith) and gained two: Cheryl Staniforth and Sheila Plant. Handicraft, literary, quilting and Rummikub groups have resumed meeting, as has the monthly lunch club. We introduced bring your own cup(as opposed to bring your own bottle) and this has proved popular. Not only does it save the kitchen washing up, but also means we all get a bigger cup of tea and of course, we are helping the environment by not using disposable plastic cups.. Thanks as always to Brian for all his help with the sound system, Martyn for setting up the Hall, and the refreshment teams. Our hope is that we will now be able to carry on meeting regularly and that we all stay well.
