Monthly meeting January 17th 2023

This month members took a walk down memory lane when a former teacher at the old Hamworthy School, Ann Smeaton, told of its history. Firstly being establisshed in 1869 by the Rev. G.C. Green as a tiny Church School. Then being enlarged following the gifting of the site by Sir Ivor Guest, the Lord of Canford Manor, who then continued to fund and support it for years. Over time local and National government became involved until in 2004 it was found necessary to demolish the old building and replace it with a new facility.. Ann told many stories of the original headteachers and staff and generations of children who over the 135 years of its existence had enjoyed their days there,. Many members were happy to share their experiences and were pleased to see the pictures in Ann's book.. You can see a picture of Ann in our gallery receiving thanks and flowers from Andrea Johnson.
