Jan-18

Woodley Townswomen's Guild has been busy over the last few months. Our October meeting talk was entitled “Poetry for All” and our speaker was Jean Hill. A very talented lady, Jean has been writing poetry since childhood and kept us entertained both with some very funny poems and some on more serious subjects, and she told us some amusing stories about the background to her poems. Our November meeting was on a more serious note and we had a speaker from Home Instead Senior Care who gave us a lot of facts about dementia and how to become a dementia friend, and we discussed people's perceptions of this disease. We have also held a skittles evening with fish and chip supper and had a visit to Kew Gardens to see the Christmas lights, stopping for a meal on the way.

Our Christmas meeting in December was great fun. Our entertainer was Dave McEwen, a very energetic gentleman who sang and danced to music and before long many of us were infected by his enthusiasm and up dancing. Mulled wine and mince pies were served, during which Dave had us doing a quiz on TV theme tunes, and after that more dancing.

Although we do not hold a regular meeting in January, our New Year has started well with a belated Christmas dinner at the Moat House and a trip to Oxford to see the Nutcracker ballet, making a day of it with lunch beforehand.
